Happy holidays

Happy holidays to everyone; enjoy the break and looking forward to great things in the new year - including blogging!

UKZN report back

Finally on 3 December UKZN reported back on the Mont Fleur experience to colleagues. We took a morning to do it and unfortunately not all 6 of us were available. Rose did a ppt overviewing the why of the RLC project; the nature of the research environemnt, libraries and the research librarian, overviewing the key papers. Margaret then provided an excellent overview of the two weeks via a ppt photo show providing pics of everything from the venue to scenery, food, delegates, sessions and so on. William's ppt dealt with the aspects of the research process, discipline knowledge, research tools, highlighting academy presentations, issues raised and resultant questions we need to ask ourselves. Rani's ppt looked at practical aspects that came out of the academy re particularly marketing, upskilling, personal attributes and so on. At the end a discussion ensued as how to carry this forward, identification of some of the ideas that needed to be acted upon and how to do so. It was agreed that a committee needed to be set up to coordinate the process.

USA

The blog has gone quiet, all too busy and exhausted! The trip to the USA is starting to materialise. Caroline, Seta, Paiki, Maryna, Rose and William are hoping to get past the US embassy and the dreaded visa process. It looks as if the trip will start as early as mid March just as we are all into the madness of the beginning of term!
